REVIEW
Macbeth Plugged

Note: This site is also referred to as "Macbeth: An In-Depth Analysis"

Contents: Text of the play, with hyperlinked notes and scene summaries; brief scene summaries; very brief character descriptions; tiny mention of themes; and an out-date discussion board.

Evaluation: The notes and the summaries are generally accurate, but the notes are sporadic. For instance, for the second scene there is a note on "broil," but none on "choke their art," which is more difficult. Also everything is very short. Most scenes are given less than 125 words.

The character descriptions are also very short. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth receive about 100 words together, and everyone else gets much less. The descriptions are accompanied by amateurish head-and-shoulder drawings.

There's a page entitled "theme"; it quotes G.R. Elliott (whose book is reviewed in Macbeth Navigator's Selected Bibliography) and just mentions three other themes and motifs.

There's an inactive discussion board (last post, 2000); like all other Shakespeare discussion boards, it's almost totally useless because most posts are by students who want someone to do their homework for them.

The appearance of the site is annoying. You're looking at small type, a black background, and red letters, all of which make it difficult to read.

Bottom Line: No reason to leave Macbeth Navigator.
