Topic: A review of the lore of the curse which is supposed to haunt those who participate in productions of Macbeth.

Faires begins with the very first production and ends with the production running in Austin, Texas at the time the story was written. Most of the stories recounted by Faires are very entertaining, but some of them seem highly unlikely. For instance, he writes, "In a performance in Amsterdam in 1672, the actor in the title role is said to have used a real dagger for the scene in which he murders Duncan and done the deed for real." The problem with this particular story is that in the text of Macbeth that we have, there is no scene in which Macbeth murders Duncan. We see Macbeth just before the murder and just after, but not during.

Bottom Line: Rehash of the legend of the "curse" of "the Scottish Play."
